Welcome to the Hungarian Academy community! This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) outlines the rules and standards of conduct for using our platform. Our goal is to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all members.

By using Hungarian Academy, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in warnings, account suspension, or permanent termination.

General Conduct Standards

1.1 Be Respectful and Professional
DO:
  • Treat all community members with respect
  • Use inclusive and welcoming language
  • Appreciate diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  • Offer constructive feedback
  • Celebrate others’ achievements
  • Ask questions politely

DON’T:
  • Use offensive, abusive, or hateful language
  • Harass, bully, or intimidate others
  • Make discriminatory comments
  • Mock others for mistakes or accents
  • Engage in personal attacks
  • Troll or provoke arguments
1.2 Foster a Learning Environment
DO:
  • Help fellow learners when possible
  • Share tips and study strategies
  • Encourage others in their learning journey
  • Acknowledge different proficiency levels
  • Be patient with beginners

DON’T:
  • Shame others for not knowing something
  • Criticize learning pace or style
  • Deliberately share incorrect information
  • Discourage questions
  • Gatekeep language learning

Prohibited Content

2.1 Illegal Content
Absolutely prohibited:
  • Child exploitation or abuse material
  • Terrorism or violent extremism
  • Human trafficking or exploitation
  • Instructions for illegal activities
  • Stolen or counterfeit goods
  • Drugs or controlled substances
  • Weapons or explosives information
  • Hacking or fraud tutorials

Consequences:
  • Immediate account termination
  • Reporting to law enforcement
  • Possible legal action
2.2 Harmful or Dangerous Content
Not allowed:
  • Graphic violence or gore
  • Self-harm or suicide promotion
  • Dangerous challenges or stunts
  • Medical misinformation
  • Eating disorder promotion
  • Substance abuse encouragement

If you are struggling, support is available:
2.3 Hate Speech and Discrimination
Zero tolerance for:
  • Racism, antisemitism, or ethnic hatred
  • Sexism or misogyny
  • Homophobia or transphobia
  • Religious intolerance
  • Ableism or discrimination against disabilities
  • Ageism or body shaming
  • Nationality-based discrimination

Includes:
  • Slurs or offensive terms
  • Harmful stereotypes or generalizations
  • “Jokes” targeting protected groups
  • Dog whistles or coded language

Context matters, but hatred has no place in learning.
2.4 Sexual or Adult Content
Not allowed:
  • Sexually explicit material
  • Pornography or nudity
  • Sexual solicitation or advances
  • Sexualized comments about users
  • Sharing intimate images without consent

Educational exception: Respectful, appropriate discussion of anatomy or relationships for learning purposes is allowed.
2.5 Spam and Commercial Content
Not allowed:
  • Repetitive or irrelevant posts
  • Unsolicited advertising
  • Pyramid schemes or MLMs
  • Phishing or scams
  • Undisclosed affiliate links
  • Fake accounts or bots

Allowed:
  • Recommending useful, non-affiliate language resources
  • Sharing free tools or apps
  • Cultural recommendations

Intellectual Property and Copyright

3.1 Respecting Our Content
You may NOT:
  • Copy or redistribute course materials
  • Record or screenshot lessons for sharing
  • Share login credentials
  • Upload content to other platforms
  • Create derivative works for commercial use
  • Remove watermarks or copyright notices

You MAY:
  • Take personal notes
  • Download materials for personal offline study
  • Quote brief excerpts with attribution (fair use)
  • Discuss course concepts within the community
3.2 Respecting Others' Content
When sharing others’ work:
  • Credit the original creator
  • Ensure you have permission
  • Link to the original source
  • Do not claim others’ work as your own

Plagiarism is prohibited:
  • Copying answers in exercises
  • Submitting AI-generated work as your own
  • Stealing translations or explanations

False claims may result in penalties.

Account Usage and Security

4.1 Account Integrity
One person, one account:
  • Accounts are personal and non-transferable
  • Do not share credentials
  • Do not create multiple accounts to abuse features
  • Do not impersonate others

Prohibited activities:
  • Selling or transferring accounts
  • Using bots or automation
  • Exploiting bugs or vulnerabilities
  • Accessing others’ accounts
  • Using fake information
4.2 Account Security
Best practices:
  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Enable two-factor authentication (if available)
  • Log out on shared devices
  • Report suspicious activity immediately

Community Interaction Guidelines

5.1 Discussion Forums and Comments
DO:
  • Stay on topic
  • Search before posting
  • Use descriptive titles
  • Format for readability
  • Update resolved questions
  • Thank helpers

DON’T:
  • Post in all caps
  • Hijack threads
  • Spam or excessive cross-posting
  • Necro-post unnecessarily
  • Post low-effort content
  • Share personal contact information publicly
5.2 Language Use
  • Primary languages: English and Hungarian
  • Other languages are welcome with context or translation

Profanity:
  • Mild language may be tolerated
  • Slurs and insults are prohibited
5.3 Private Messages
Guidelines:

Content Moderation

7.1 Moderator Authority
  • Moderators may:
    • Review reports
    • Remove violating content
    • Issue warnings or suspensions
    • Edit or move posts for clarity

    Decisions are final; appeals are available.

  • Third offense: 30-day suspension, final warning

Severe/repeated: Permanent termination, IP ban, no refunds
